Sink or float?
Explore buoyancy ‘n’ saltwater density! *eek*
Materials needed:
2 clear glasses / Water / Salt / A spoon / Small objects (e.g. plastic sea creatures, small toys)
What to do:
-
Fill both glasses with the same amount of water.
-
In one glass, toss in a few tablespoons of salt 'n’ stir it up until it dissolves.
-
Drop a small object into the glass with plain water 'n’ watch what happens.
-
Now, drop that same object into the glass with saltwater - see how it floats *grin*

This fun experiment shows how salt increases water density, making it easier for things to float.
Why it works:
Saltwater’s denser than freshwater ‘cause thedissolved salt adds mass to the water without really pumpin’ up its volume. This extra density makes stuff float better in saltwater.
Weightlessness challenge
Simulate zero gravity!
Materials needed:
2 bowls / Cotton wool balls / 1 spoon / 1 blindfold
What to do:
-
Set out an empty bowl n’ a bowl with 20 cotton balls.
-
Set a timer for 30 seconds 'n' pop on a blindfold.
-
See how many cotton balls you can scoop from one bowl to the other using only the spoon - no hands allowed!
-
Challenge your friends 'n' family to beat your record *grin*
Why it works:
On Earth, gravity pulls everything toward the ground. This challenge simulates someone working in a zero-gravity environment, like an astronaut in space. It’s trickier than it looks!
